I screened lesbian films for our local fest here- http://www.filmoutsandiego.com. “Affiinity” was by far the best of the bunch, which included “I Can’t Think Straight” and “The New World”. I’m disappointed with how few lesbian films make it into these fests but I think we can attribute that to two things:

1. The festival programmers are all/mostly men.
2. Lesbian filmmakers are making some crappy movies.

Question is, how can we change it?

Yet another year of the Mardi Gras film festival that there is nothing on that makes me excited. I want to see Affinity, but it will no doubt turn up on TV in the near future.

Too true.
But what I really came here for was to ask: what happened to your film reviews site? I could well be a complete fool, but I can’t find it anywhere… and that sucks because I was totally using it to build my film collection into something resembling decent….

I know how you feel. I want to go see a few films, but the thought of actually going to a cinema, paying above the odds (London does equal too expensive, especially when you can see it rather quickly, commercial free, on either DVD or TV very quickly on nice, surround-sound TVs) for the experiences of sitting in a vile theatre with rude people. I don’t mind that for some films, but not all.

I may make the effort to go see Quantum of Solace this weekend, though.

I’m sure you’ll shake your lurgy, though. Give it a bit of time.

As for Tipping the Velvet, I love both the TV adaption and the novel. I think in some ways, the TV is better than the novel, I love how they changed the ending of the novel, much much better. Anyway, those two versions of TTV have something in common actually, the creepy “second part”, lol…

I disagree about the changes for Tipping The Velvet – I think the book was much more graphic and engaging than the series. I’d choose the book any day.

Good point, though I haven’t really been to a festival for a while (gonna see if I can change that with next year’s Mardi Gras…) since none of the dyke films at the London festival this year appealed.

TV in Britain has been a bit better lately with fabulous stuff on *the* prime time show (that’s not a soap or reality thing) – Doctor Who and its spin-off Torchwood. Just watched the penultimate episode for this series of Doctor Who and there was no holding back from Captain Jack and Ianto’s relationship, and this is a series purely aimed at a family (kiddie) audience. With Steven Moffat taking over next year there might be more lesbians in it (though I’m sure the key character in the Midnight episode of Doctor Who was a lesbian). He had two fab dykes in his Jekyl.
